THE SWIMMING

POOL PROJECT

I have had a goal for over two years now -I would love to build and run a swimming pool of my own to teach from. Turtles lessons are full, and the classes run by my family's swim school in Hatch End are oversubscribed - we have waiting lists over two years long for some of our stages. As a long term solution to this problem, I would love to find a plot of land on which to build a warm water swimming pool which could be used for lessons for all ages and abilities, from babies to adults.

My Vision:

  • A place for babies, children and adults to learn to swim and develop their strokes;

  • Employment and volunteering opportunities for the local community;

  • Tutoring programmes run in house to train new swimming teachers and lifeguards;

  • A well run facility, with UV water filtration to reduce the chlorine needed, renewable energy sources to maintain the pool and air temperature and clean, warm changing rooms.

Finding the land has been a huge challenge. I have tried the following so far:

  • Approaching local schools to enquire about refurbishing existing pools or a new one on school land (providing an income for the school);

  • An application to Three Rivers Council to build on an available privately owned plot of equestrian land. The application was refused;

  • Speaking to commercial and residential estate agents;

  • Approaching local councils directly.

Do you have any ideas to help me take this project further?
