Our Teaching Philosophy

A Background in Swimming

My name is Clare Foskett and I run Turtles Swim School and the Tiny Turtles swimming lessons. I'm from a family of swimming teachers, coaches and swimmers - I have swimming in my DNA! I have always been a swimmer myself, and I have been a qualified swimming teacher for nearly seventeen years. I studied Psychology at University and went on to train in Primary Education, then work as a class teacher at a local prep school for six years. When I had children myself, I decided to incorporate both my teaching experience and passion for swimming to develop the family swim school and start Turtles.

I know how to engage children and adults and make learning to swim enjoyable, but I also know what constitutes good technique - I can set the foundations for good strokes.

Lessons Tailored to the Swimmer

I follow the ASA and STA Learn to Swim programmes, and assess swimmers using their awards criteria, but I also tailor the class to suit the individual - some swimmers need extra help on a certain skill or stroke, whilst others need a more challenging practice. I differentiate lessons to suit each swimmer, and I have high standards when it comes to technique. I aim to produce swimmers who have good technique, plenty of stamina and a love of the sport that will last a lifetime.

Why Learn to Swim?

Health

Swimming is a great way for children and adults to keep healthy. When you enrol your baby, your child or yourself in swimming lessons, you are learning a skill which has the potential to improve your mental and physical health.

Water Safety

Drowning is unfortunately one of the leading causes of childhood death. Water safety is an integral part of every swimming lesson, and we teach our swimmers a respect for the water.

A Flexible Approach

We tailor our classes to meet the swimmer's needs, and we make our lessons enjoyable and engaging. Not every swimmer finds every stroke and every skill easy - we'll help our swimmers find what makes them shine in the pool.

Awards

We work towards STA and ASA awards every term. If a swimmer consistently meets the criteria, you will be able to purchase a badge and certificate at the end of the term, should you wish to do so.
